Education for All Kids – A Holistic Learning Initiative

The Education for All Kids project, implemented by the Jubayer Masud Educational & Charitable Trust (JMECT) since June 2022 with funding support from the Global Fund for Children, aims at the holistic development of children to nurture them into capable and responsible future citizens. The project focuses on providing quality education along with extracurricular activities across 10 villages in Bongaigaon and Barpeta districts of Assam.

Under the initiative, 10 Early Childhood Education (ECE) centres have been established within government school premises to ensure joyful and activity-based learning for young children. Each centre, facilitated by a trained local female Education Volunteer, provides a vibrant classroom environment enriched with Teaching Learning Materials (TLMs), stories, rhymes, play, and art-based learning. These centres currently cater to 268 children, helping them develop strong foundations for lifelong learning.

To address learning gaps among school-going children, 10 Remedial Education Centres have also been set up in the same schools, supporting 258 students in improving their literacy and numeracy skills. The remedial sessions adopt interactive and innovative methods to help children gain confidence and reduce dropout rates from formal schools.

Recognizing the importance of skilled educators, JMECT organizes Teacher Training and TLM-making workshops two to three times a year to enhance the teaching capacity of Education Volunteers. Additionally, community meetings are regularly conducted to strengthen parental and community involvement in education. These meetings focus on issues like school dropout, child marriage, and school management, encouraging shared responsibility for better learning outcomes.

The project also emphasizes sports and extracurricular activities as essential components of child development. Every Saturday, children participate in games, quizzes, debates, and cultural activities that promote teamwork, leadership, and confidence. Special events like Children’s Day celebrations are organized across all learning centres, making education both enjoyable and meaningful.
Through this comprehensive approach, the Education for All Kids project continues to build a strong educational foundation for underprivileged children, ensuring that every child receives the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

Ensuring Educational Security of Children from Poor Families in Riverine Areas of Assam

JMECT is currently implementing the third phase of its initiative titled “Ensuring Educational Security of Children from Poor Families in Riverine Areas of Assam.” with Funding support of Paul Hamlyn Foundation (Phase-3)  Building on previous experience, this phase focuses on sustaining educational support for primary school children, strengthening children and youth collectives, and enhancing the organisation’s institutional resilience.

Under this project, trained facilitators are conducting Early Childhood Education (ECE) sessions and community-based remedial classes in collaboration with 18 government schools. These learning spaces aim to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy among children and create a joyful learning environment through extracurricular activities and creative engagement. At the same time, JMECT is supporting the formation and functioning of children’s groups and mobilising youth volunteers to participate in community-led education initiatives, events, sports, and leadership-building activities.

Alongside field implementation, the project includes a structured organisational development process to strengthen leadership competencies, improve governance systems, and establish a long-term strategic direction. The outcome of this process will be a five-year white paper outlining JMECT’s future vision, mission, and goals.

Through this integrated approach, JMECT aims to ensure improved learning outcomes, active community and youth participation, and a stronger organisational foundation for sustained impact.

Orphan Support Program-A Commitment to Education, Hope, and Dignity

The Orphan Support Program of the Jubayer Masud Educational & Charitable Trust (JMECT) began in 2021 to ensure that orphaned and semi-orphaned children continue their education without financial barriers. Supported through the Benevity Causes Portal, with contributions from generous individual donors affiliated with organizations such as Google, PayPal, Silicon Valley Bank, Adobe, and others, the initiative offers annual scholarships ranging from ₹3,000 to ₹6,000 along with essential educational materials. Since inception, JMECT has supported a total of 143 children, providing scholarships, uniforms, stationery, school bags, water bottles, and even reading tables based on individual needs. In December 2025, JMECT conducted a scholarship distribution programme where 8 new children were added, increasing the current beneficiaries to 13. The program has helped build confidence, motivation, and educational continuity for vulnerable children, reflecting JMECT’s commitment to ensuring every child receives the support needed to pursue a brighter and dignified future.

Cutting and Tailoring Training Centre (Under Skill Development Program)

JMECT has launched a Cutting and Tailoring Training Centre under its Skill Development Program to empower women and girls with practical livelihood skills. This initiative aims to create sustainable income opportunities for women who face socio-economic challenges and have limited access to skill-based education. With generous support from the Dasra Rebuild India Fund, JMECT has renovated the existing training hall—transforming it from a kacha structure into a pucca building. This upgraded facility now provides a safe, durable, and conducive learning environment equipped to support long-term training activities.

The programme is designed to train 10 girls and women per batch, ensuring that each participant receives focused guidance and hands-on practice. Every batch follows a six-month structured training cycle, covering foundational and advanced tailoring skills, garment construction, stitching techniques, and basic entrepreneurship. So far, 5 women have enrolled in the first batch, and mobilization efforts continue to reach the full target.

The Tailoring Centre was inaugurated on 3rd December 2025 at the JMECT campus in the presence of respected community members. Retired teacher Mr. Abdus Salam and Mr. Anowar Hussain, Head Teacher of BK High School, attended as chief guests and formally opened the centre. A total of 24 women participated in the ceremony, where the importance of women’s empowerment, financial independence, and skill building was emphasized.

This ongoing initiative is expected to significantly enhance women’s confidence, self-reliance, and income-generation capacity, contributing to the overall socio-economic development of the community.
