Livelihood Support

The Jubayer Masud Educational & Charitable Trust (JMECT) recognizes that sustainable livelihood opportunities are the foundation for long-term community development and social stability. In our project areas, particularly under the Tapattary and Srijangram blocks of Bongaigaon district, Assam, most families depend on daily wage labor and small-scale agriculture for survival. Recurrent floods, river erosion, and lack of employment opportunities have made life extremely difficult for these marginalized communities, forcing many families into chronic poverty and debt.

To address these challenges, JMECT has implemented a Livelihood Support Program aimed at empowering poor and vulnerable families—especially women, youth, and parents of school-going children—to become self-reliant. The initiative focuses on promoting sustainable income-generating activities and building local skills to strengthen household resilience against economic and climatic shocks.

Through this program, JMECT provides:

Skill development training in areas such as tailoring, handicrafts, poultry farming, goat rearing, mushroom cultivation, and small business management.

Livelihood inputs and start-up support such as sewing machines, livestock, seeds, and tools to help families initiate or expand income-generating activities.

Capacity building and financial literacy sessions to help beneficiaries manage their resources effectively and plan for the future.

Since its inception, JMECT’s livelihood interventions have benefited over 1,700 families, improving their income stability and living conditions. The program has also contributed to reducing child labor by supporting parents to earn a stable income, enabling their children to continue schooling.

By promoting economic self-sufficiency and dignity of labor, JMECT’s livelihood support initiative continues to uplift marginalized families and foster inclusive, community-driven development in rural Assam.
