Orphan Support

In spite of various planned development initiatives and special provisions aimed at accelerating the socio-economic progress of disadvantaged communities, the issue of orphan, semi-orphan, and street children remains largely unaddressed. In JMECT’s project areas, a significant number of such vulnerable children struggle daily for survival. The problem has become increasingly acute due to urbanization, industrialization, remarriage of deserted, widowed or divorced women, family disputes, and the absence of love and security within families. As a result, many orphan and street children are left without care or support and are often forced into activities such as rag picking, begging, pickpocketing, or other anti-social and criminal practices.

To address this pressing concern, the Jubayer Masud Educational & Charitable Trust (JMECT) has decided to establish an orphan children’s home named “Snehlaya” with the objective of mainstreaming these children into society and nation-building by providing care, support, and protection. The proposed project seeks additional support to effectively run the orphan children’s home and ensure the holistic development of these children.

JMECT has always been committed to promoting education among marginalized and underprivileged communities. While many children with parents still struggle to access quality education, the condition of orphans is even more severe. Most orphan children are deprived of learning opportunities; they often drop out of school at an early age or never enroll at all, being compelled to work for their daily survival. Without education and proper guidance, they fall into the trap of poverty, neglect, and exploitation, sometimes even becoming victims of bonded labor. The lack of parental care, love, and encouragement often leads to low self-esteem and antisocial behavior.

To counter this, JMECT has been extending educational support to orphan and semi-orphan children within its capacity. So far, the organization has supported 31 such students through various interventions. The activities undertaken include:

Provision of school uniforms and learning materials: Many orphan children cannot afford basic educational items. JMECT provided school uniforms to 14 students, along with notebooks, textbooks, pencil boxes, and other essential learning materials, which motivated them to attend school regularly.

Scholarship support: JMECT provided an annual scholarship ranging from ₹3,000 to ₹6,000 per child to seven orphan students, helping them meet educational expenses and continue their studies without interruption.

Study furniture support: To create a better learning environment at home, reading tables and chair sets were distributed among 10 orphan and semi-orphan children.

These thoughtful interventions have brought smiles and renewed hope to the lives of orphan children, inspiring them to pursue education and build a brighter future for themselves.
